DHB Clerical workers belonging to NUPE resume their long delayed quest to be paid fairly for their central contribution to the health team. 2010 saw a 2% increase and the resumption of progression for experience up a scale. This year the priority is to allow those who are on merit steps to progress if they meet the yet to be negotiated merit criteria. Negotiations in both the CHDB and NMDHB are due to commence soon.

Dates of 17 and 18 March 2011 have now been set for the Collective Agreement negotiations between NUPE and SFWU and Richmond NZ. The expired agreement with the former Richmond Fellowship will be the basis for negotiations. The Service Workers (SFWU) cover the North Island members and NUPE Christchurch and Nelson and we are again seeking a Multi Union Collective Agreement. The process of putting claims together is now underway.
The first meeting for 2011 of the Brackenridge Estate (BE) union management forum was held on Wednesday 26 January from 10am to 12 noon. Items on the agenda included Sleepovers – both what is happening with Court of Appeal decision on the minimum wage (due February) and a proposal to change sleepovers in some BE houses. NUPE has been informed that the MAF VA Vet trials (time versus task basis) have been extended. They will now continue till June 2011 and there are discussions about a fourth meat plant being involved. We have also been informed that there will be a visit from an EU team in March.
