

This review was advocated for by NUPE and achieved in bargaining. This a reflection of the ongoing work programme and commitment to seeing fairness and acknowledgement of those in the WPA role. We understand there are a number of non-union WPA, please reach out to them and encourage them to join NUPE, have their voice heard in this review process and to be represented. It is important to NUPE that we continue to progress this work and raise the needs of WPA and Residential Admin at every opportunity.

NOTICE – WPA Scope of Review & Intended Outcomes
The current review of the WPA role is focused on establishing a clear and consistent understanding of the position across sites and regions.
Scope of the Review
✔ Reviewing existing job descriptions, responsibilities, and role variations
✔ Identifying any unofficial or additional duties regularly undertaken
✔ Clarifying the WPA’s contribution to site operations, staff support, and service delivery
It is our intention that this will lead into and inform :

Remuneration – this current review process will not determine pay outcomes. Information gathered may, however, help inform future job sizing or related processes.

Workload & Health and Safety

Training & Support Needs the review will provide useful insights that emerge which will be noted to inform future discussions.
The insights gathered by the review will later support work on recognition, resourcing, and professional development.
Oranga Tamariki are working on the composition of the working panel and will begin to align time frames for this work.
This review is a starting point to clearly define the WPA role. It is not about remuneration or workload solutions at this stage but will provide the foundation for progress in those areas moving forward.
